The Glove Project
Develop a technical system for actors & artists to control stage lightning. Creating an Arduino- and Touch designer based lighting controller used by performers in a theater performance
Performance Date
December 1st, 2022
Team
Baron Leon Merlijn Hoek van Dijke
Innovation
For this project, we explored technologies for actors on stage to take control of stage lighting. In this way, they could create a dynamic piece. We explored the following technologies:
Microcontrollers
Computer Vision
Building a sensor space
The Glove
The prototype glove is built and programmed from scratch. It uses flex sensors to measure finger movements, incorporates a Bluetooth module for signalling, and has a battery module, accelerometer and necessary wiring. The control system uses Touchdesigner to translate Arduino to OSC to EOS.

Choral Spheres
Spherical projection mapping in a choral performance
Performance Date

Innovation
For this project, we explored technologies to optimize spherical projection mapping. Although there are several technologies readily available, our aim was to start from scratch, optimizing and researching the viability of projection methods. We tested the following three methods:
Equirectangular Projection: Recreating images similar to topographical maps, we optimized visuals to become spherical.
Digital Space Recreation: Developed as our own solution, we recreated the setup in a digital space with digital cameras, and projected those in real space, saving resources in the process.
Content mapping with disguise: Using media server Disguise one, we used a similar technique as digital space recreation to achieve spherical projection.

Perfomance & Visuals
The final performance, pictured on the right, utilizes a large latex suspended sphere to project on. For the performance, we used a mix of self-made visuals and artist renditions.
